Manglik Dosh Explained: Meaning and Cancellation
Few words worry families as much as 'Manglik'. In reality, it is a common chart feature, and traditional astrology has many conditions under which it is reduced or cancelled. Here is a calm, clear explanation.
What is Manglik Dosh?
A person is called Manglik (or is said to have Mangal Dosha) when Mars sits in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house of the birth chart. Some traditions also include the 2nd house. Mars is a fiery planet, and in these houses it is believed to bring intensity into personal and marital life.
How common is it?
Because Mars can fall in any of the twelve houses, a substantial share of all charts, often quoted at roughly a third, show some form of Manglik placement. It is far more common than many people assume.
Why it matters in marriage matching
The 7th house governs marriage, so Mars influencing it or the houses around it is checked carefully during kundli matching. Traditionally, a Manglik person is matched with another Manglik so that the energies balance.
When Manglik Dosh is considered reduced or cancelled
- Both partners are Manglik
- Mars is in its own sign (Aries, Scorpio) or exalted (Capricorn)
- Jupiter aspects Mars or the 7th house
- Mars is placed in certain signs for particular ascendants
- The person is past a certain age, according to some traditions
An astrologer examines the whole chart before concluding how strong the dosha actually is.
Traditional remedies
Common suggestions include reciting the Hanuman Chalisa, observing Tuesday fasts, and performing a Mangal Shanti puja. These are acts of faith and discipline. They are not a substitute for open communication and good judgement between partners.
A balanced view
Manglik Dosh should be assessed, not feared. If your chart shows it, a consultation can clarify its real strength and the conditions that soften it.
